34-year-old taxi driver arrested for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend
Police in the Ashanti Region have taken 34‑year‑old taxi driver Robert Kwabena Boamah into custody for the suspected murder of his long‑time partner, 23‑year‑old Dorothy Owusu Annor, affectionately known as Maa Abena.
Investigators say the couple left Dorothy’s family residence in Abuakwa on Monday, 21 April 2025, telling relatives they were on their way to a bakery to prepare bread. Not long afterwards, officers at Kwadaso received a distress call: an unidentified woman’s body had been found near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex at Dominase. When police arrived, they discovered the victim—later identified as Dorothy—with multiple stab wounds. Boamah’s taxi, bearing registration AS 8575‑Y, was parked nearby, engine still idling, and officers recovered Dorothy’s mobile phone from the vehicle.
Boamah vanished immediately after the incident, sparking a region‑wide search. On Wednesday, 23 April, detectives traced him to a hideout in Namong, Offinso Municipality, where he was arrested without incident. During interrogation, Boamah allegedly confessed to stabbing Dorothy and admitted that he had attempted suicide after the attack. He received treatment at Abuakwa Polyclinic for self‑inflicted injuries before being discharged into police custody.
DSP Godwin Ahianyo, head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, confirmed that Boamah will be arraigned shortly. He emphasized that investigators are assembling forensic evidence— including the recovered phone, the taxi, and medical reports— to present to prosecutors. Authorities are also interviewing friends, relatives, and potential witnesses to establish a precise timeline of events from the moment the couple left Abuakwa to the discovery of Dorothy’s body at Dominase.
News of the killing has shocked residents of Abuakwa and Dominase, communities already unsettled by a string of violent incidents in recent months. Civic leaders are urging calm while encouraging anyone with information to cooperate with police. Meanwhile, women’s‑rights advocates have renewed calls for stronger interventions against intimate‑partner violence, highlighting Dorothy’s death as the latest reminder of the dangers faced by young women in abusive relationships.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that it will pursue the case diligently to ensure justice for the victim and her family. A court appearance for Boamah is expected in the coming days, where prosecutors will formally charge him with murder and present initial evidence. If convicted, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.
