A tragic incident has rocked the Ashanti Region as police confirm the arrest of a 34-year-old taxi driver, Robert Kwabena Boamah, in connection with the death of his 23-year-old girlfriend, Dorothy Owusu Annor, popularly known as Maa Abena. The case has stirred emotions and raised serious concerns about relationship-related crimes, with residents of Abuakwa and its surrounding areas still reeling from the shocking development.

The police report that the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at a hideout in Namong, Offinso Municipality, just three days after he reportedly went into hiding. He is said to have picked up Dorothy in his taxi cab from her family home in Abuakwa on April 21, with the pair allegedly heading out to bake bread, a familiar activity for the couple.

What was expected to be a routine day turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when the police received a distress call reporting the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex in Dominase, located in the Kwadaso Municipality. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a young woman with multiple stab wounds, later identified as Dorothy Owusu Annor. A mobile phone believed to belong to her was retrieved from the suspect’s taxi, which had been left at the scene with the ignition key still in place.

DSP Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the details and stated that the swift investigation led to Boamah’s location and arrest. During interrogation, Boamah reportedly confessed to his involvement in the incident and also revealed that he had attempted to take his own life following the act. He received treatment at the Abuakwa Polyclinic and was subsequently discharged.

This incident has deeply affected the local community, where both the suspect and the victim were known. Dorothy, a young woman full of life and dreams, was reportedly in a long-term relationship with Boamah. Friends and family members who gathered after news of the incident broke expressed shock and sadness, struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Police have assured the public that the suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing enquiries, while also encouraging individuals in distress to seek help through available support systems.

The arrest and the confession have brought some clarity to the case, but the emotional toll on the family and community remains heavy. Many are calling for greater awareness around domestic disputes and for more accessible conflict resolution mechanisms to help prevent such devastating outcomes in the future.
