The call for unity and respect in Kusaug has become more pressing than ever as tensions continue to rise, with growing concerns over how some individuals choose to express their frustrations. A message widely circulated by a concerned citizen known as De Badest is calling on all Kusaug youth and community members to refrain from publicly humiliating their leaders. According to the message, insults and attacks, particularly through audio recordings, have only deepened divisions and slowed the resolution of the challenges facing the area.

The statement highlights the crucial role of elders, traditional rulers, and political leaders in maintaining peace and promoting development. In Kusaug, the Zug’raan Bawku Naba, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, holds the highest authority in the traditional structure. He has the mandate to summon any leader, whether political or community-based, including the likes of Hon. Cletus Avoka and Hon. Mahama Ayariga. The point made is that there are appropriate and respectful channels through which grievances can be raised and addressed, without resorting to public ridicule.

One key issue raised is the misuse of audio messages. The concern is that these recordings, often laced with anger and disrespect, end up being counterproductive. Rather than solving issues, they expose internal weaknesses and provide valuable information to those who may not have the best intentions for Kusaug. De Badest warns that some external forces, particularly the Mamprussi, may be taking advantage of these divisions by trying to turn the youth against their own leaders, elders, and even security forces.

The statement also sheds light on historical examples, recalling how the Mamprussi community previously voiced concerns about being unsupported by then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. However, rather than fuelling the situation with public noise, they quietly aligned with him, resulting in the deployment of Seidu Abagre to Bawku. This subtle but strategic approach is presented as a lesson on how much more can be achieved when matters are handled with wisdom rather than rage.

According to the message, anger and constant public attacks could eventually drive away the very leaders who have the influence and power to help. It cites the example of JohnDe, a once vocal supporter of Kusaug, who is said to have distanced himself from community matters due to persistent negativity and insults. The fear is that more leaders could follow this path if the trend continues.

It also raises concerns about the shift in political stance, especially when former President John Dramani Mahama, who once strongly recognised the Zug’raan as the sole overlord of Kusaug, later referred the Bawku chieftaincy issue to the Asantehene. The message argues that Mahama still holds the key to bringing resolution and should be engaged constructively rather than condemned.

The call is not for blind loyalty, but for a more civil and united front. Leadership comes with responsibilities, and holding leaders accountable is necessary, but it must be done respectfully. The time has come, according to De Badest, for Kusaug to stop the infighting and take a more strategic, united approach to ensure the long-term protection of its people, culture, and leadership.
