President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has been appointed as the Second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a significant step for both Ghana and African football governance.

The announcement was made by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a press conference in Accra on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Okraku’s appointment was unanimously approved by the CAF Executive Committee following a meeting held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Okraku, who was elected unopposed to the CAF Executive Committee in March 2025, succeeds Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya as Second Vice President. His elevation reflects CAF’s ongoing efforts to balance regional representation and promote inclusivity across the continent's football leadership. The new leadership structure brings together voices from different regions, with Morocco’s Faouzi Lekjaa named First Vice President, Gabon’s Pierre-Alain Mounguengui as Third Vice President, DR Congo’s Bestine Kazadi Ditabala as Fourth Vice President, and Mozambique’s Feizal Sidat taking the Fifth Vice President role.

Okraku’s appointment is especially significant for Ghana, as he becomes the first Ghanaian to occupy the Second Vice President position at CAF since Kwesi Nyantakyi. His rise to one of the top leadership roles in African football underscores Ghana’s growing influence in continental football affairs.

Speaking after his appointment, Okraku expressed his gratitude to the CAF Executive Committee and President Motsepe for the trust placed in him. He pledged to work hard to advance the interests of African football and to continue promoting initiatives that will develop the game across all member nations.

The appointment of Okraku and other leaders from diverse backgrounds highlights CAF’s commitment to regional balance, gender inclusivity, and the advancement of football on the African continent. His leadership is expected to contribute significantly to CAF's broader agenda of innovation, transparency, and unity in African football.

As Ghana celebrates this achievement, hopes are high that Kurt Okraku’s new role will further strengthen the country’s standing within CAF and open new doors for football development across the nation.
