Liverpool have won the Premier League for the 2024–2025 season after a dominant 5-1 win over Tottenham. Recall that in an article, I mentioned that they just needed a point to secure the Premier League title after Arsenal drew with Crystal Palace, but of course, they had to win it in style.
This is Liverpool’s 20th English top-flight title and their first since the corona era of 2019–2020. Back then, it didn’t really feel the same, as fans couldn’t celebrate with the players due to lockdowns, social distancing, and all that.
Now, where was I?
Ah, yes — it’s absolute scenes at Anfield right now!
New manager and former Feyenoord boss, Arne Slot, has won the Premier League in his first season with Liverpool. Sure, you can add the unfortunate exits — being booted out of the UCL, kicked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Plymouth, and losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle — but winning the Premier League has hopefully wiped away the tears of Liverpool fans.
Back to the match:
Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke scored first in the 12th minute, but Luis Díaz equalized just four minutes later. Alexis Mac Allister made it 2-1 in the 24th minute, Cody Gakpo added a third, and Mohamed Salah scored in the 63rd minute. An own goal by Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie brought the final scoreline to a commanding 5-1. Total domination!
Salah’s goal also moved him to 5th place on the Premier League all-time goalscorers list — no wonder he’s called the Egyptian King.
With four matches left, Liverpool have officially been crowned champions, sitting on 82 points from 34 matches. With the same number of games played as Arsenal and a 15-point gap — and with only 12 points left to collect — the title is mathematically sealed.
Also, in other news, Arsenal might finish second for the third consecutive time. I do feel bad for them, but I believe their time will come.
Congratulations, Liverpool— well deserved!
