In a major development in international football, Carlo Ancelotti is set to become the new head coach of Brazil’s national team, with an announcement expected by June 2025. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has intensified efforts to finalize the agreement, offering Ancelotti a record salary that would make him the highest-paid coach in the Seleção’s illustrious history.

According to reports from El País, The Sun, and TalkSport, Brazil is eager to have Ancelotti in place before the start of the 2026 FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14, 2025. CBF officials are determined not to wait until after the tournament, aiming to secure the Italian’s signature in the coming weeks. The urgency stems from Brazil’s need for stable leadership as they prepare for crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Ancelotti’s departure from Real Madrid now appears imminent. Despite having a contract with Los Blancos until 2026, recent performances have put pressure on the Italian manager. Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final elimination at the hands of Arsenal, coupled with a Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona, has fueled speculation about his future. Both Ancelotti and the Real Madrid board are reportedly in favor of a respectful, amicable separation, reflecting the esteem in which Ancelotti is held at the Bernabéu.

Brazil's offer is said to be unprecedented. Sources suggest Ancelotti will be given full control over the Seleção’s preparations, not only for World Cup qualification but also for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has already begun planning for the post-Ancelotti era. Xabi Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen to great success, is the leading candidate to take over at the Bernabéu. However, there remains uncertainty about the timing of his potential appointment, especially with the Club World Cup approaching. Should a delay occur, Madrid’s director of football, Santiago Solari, is being considered for an interim coaching role.

This marks a significant chapter in Ancelotti’s legendary career. After successful spells at AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, the chance to lead a footballing giant like Brazil on the international stage represents a new and historic challenge. If finalized, this would also be Ancelotti’s first role as a national team head coach — a remarkable addition to his glittering résumé.

For Brazil, securing Ancelotti's services could be a transformative moment as they seek to reclaim their place at the summit of world football.
