In a fresh development following the unsettling robbery at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, a mortuary attendant has been arrested for questioning by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Somanya. The incident, which has sparked concern among the local community, took a surprising twist as investigators turned their attention to an unexpected suspect.

The arrest comes after police officers visited the hospital to begin their official investigation into the incident. According to reports, the robbery occurred at the hospital’s Outpatient Department, where the attendant was found present during the time of the attack. What raised eyebrows was that this staff member was not officially scheduled to be on duty that night, yet was observed at the scene when the crime occurred.

CID officers, after arriving at the facility, first spoke with the victim of the robbery who was receiving treatment from health professionals. Investigators then carefully examined the possible entry and exit points that the suspected armed robbers may have used. These checks were part of efforts to piece together the sequence of events and understand how the robbers gained access to the hospital undetected.

Following their preliminary findings, the police made their way to the mortuary unit and informed hospital management of their intention to take the staff member in for further questioning. The decision, according to sources, was made based on the individual’s unusual presence at the OPD during the time of the incident, as well as other details obtained during the early stages of the probe.

The arrest of the mortuary worker has added a new layer of complexity to the case. With hospital security typically limited during night hours, the presence of an unauthorised staff member has led many to speculate about possible internal involvement or lapses in communication regarding staff shifts. Authorities have, however, cautioned the public against drawing premature conclusions as investigations are still ongoing.

Citi News sources confirm that the individual is currently assisting police with investigations and has not yet been formally charged with any offence. The motive behind the robbery remains unclear, and no information has been released regarding what was taken or whether there were any injuries beyond the initial victim being treated.

The management of the hospital is said to be fully cooperating with law enforcement, providing access to surveillance footage, staff rosters, and any other information that may help uncover the facts behind the disturbing incident. The security of patients and staff remains a top priority, and steps are being taken to tighten measures across all departments.

Local residents have expressed shock at the robbery, which took place in what many consider a safe and community-focused health facility. The presence of armed robbers at a hospital is a deeply unsettling event, and many are hoping for swift justice and improved protection in public institutions. The involvement of CID personnel indicates the seriousness with which the Ghana Police Service is treating the matter, and efforts are being made to bring clarity and reassurance to both the public and the hospital staff.

Authorities are also urging anyone with relevant information to come forward, emphasising that the investigation will be thorough and guided by evidence. The hope is that through proper inquiry and community cooperation, those responsible for the incident will be brought to justice swiftly and fairly.
