Chelsea are part of a three-way summer battle for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo with Bayern Munich and Juventus also in the mix.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona could expect to receive offers for Ronald Araujo in the summer transfer window due to a release clause in his contract valid for a limited period. The Catalan giants are wary of the growing interest in the Uruguayan defender as Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Juventus form a three-way battle for the centre-back.

Ronald Araujo’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain heading into the summer transfer window despite the defender signing a new deal until 2031. The Uruguayan centre-back was the subject of big interest from Juventus during January when the Blaugrana were struggling with finances that threatened to de-register a few of their current stars.

Araujo was close to completing his move to Juventus, although Barcelona rejected the approach as they sought at least €70 million for the defender. The new deal now brings another twist to the tale, as the 26-year-old Barcelona defender has a release clause worth €65 million in his agreement that lasts for a few days in the early parts of July.

Clubs will be aware of this clause, as some of the interested parties are expected to open talks or even trigger the release clause to land Ronald Araujo. Juventus are still thought to be interested, while Bayern Munich and Chelsea are credited to be in the mix in what looks like a three-way battle for the 26-year-old Barcelona defender.

Bayern Munich are expected to sell Kim Min-Jae and could view Araujo as the perfect replacement in the event of the South Korean’s departure. Juventus are already looking to improve their defensive ranks and could make their move for the Uruguayan international if the conditions are right.

Chelsea could be a big suitor for Ronald Araujo

Money has not deterred the Chelsea owners when it comes to investing in top talents, and that might be the case in the Araujo chase. The Blues are already looking to improve their defensive ranks, as they are eager to sign Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen.

The issue with those pursuits is the level of stiff competition from rivals, as there is a chance Chelsea miss out on one of those targets or even both. Hence, the idea of signing the 26-year-old Barcelona defender is floating around in the background, as his €65 million release clause will be seen as achievable for the Blues ownership in case they want to bring the Uruguayan to Stamford Bridge this summer.
