Kelleher is Liverpool’s current second goalkeeper who, when it comes to goalkeeping, he is one of the best when it comes to saving shots especially during crucial penalties.
In, 2022 he replaced Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s first choice, in the EFL cup final against Chelsea due to injury. He was so superb. He helped Liverpool win the Titlte after he scored the last penalty to clinch the trophy.
Fast forward in the 2023/24 season, Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from the club because he was tired. Liverpool have no other choice than to bring in a new Head coach, Arne Slot. Slot came in, took Liverpool into the pre-season tour and made some few changes in the team.
Liverpool now has three good goalkeepers but Slot wanted another goalkeeper and Liverpool board signed Giorgi Marmadasvilli from Valencia who is currently on loan. This means, if Giorgi comes after the current season, LFC will have four goalkeepers.
Alisson who is the world’s best goalkeeper arguably can not be on the bench for Kelleher to be in post. This season, due to injuries from Becker, Caomihn needed to stepup as the Second goalkeeper and he proved to the world that he can also be a first goalkeeper somewhere.
As Giorgi Marmadasvilli is coming to Liverpool, he will have to also fight for a Second goalkeeper spot against Kelleher although they cannot bench Alisson. Due to this, the Republic of Ireland Manager,
Heimir Hallgrimson said that: " I just want him to go to a club where he will play on regular basis. I'm not so bothered where he goes because he showed everyone he can play at the highest level ".
As Kelleher is the first choice goalkeeper for Republic of Ireland, his manager thinks about his playing time at Liverpool and suggests he plays somewhere else.
