FROM GOATS TO GONE: RONALDO, MESSI, LEBRON AND THE FALL FROM THE TOP

Cristiano Ronaldo was recently knocked out in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup by Monterrey. LeBron James crashed in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Honestly, these three were top-level athletes at their prime. With Messi and Ronaldo, you could say they were the GOATs of football. As a Cristiano Ronaldo fan, I like to call him the GOAT of all GOATs. But whether you're Team Ronaldo or Team Messi, we can all agree that those two were not normal—their rivalry was unmatched. Ronaldo might score a hat-trick today, and Messi would answer with four goals the next game. It was that crazy.

As for LeBron James, we all know he is the absolute GOAT of basketball. No cap!

These three, in their prime, would absolutely destroy any of the teams that have now knocked them out. But with all of them pushing forty, their bodies are no longer what they used to be, and naturally, they’ve started to crash from the top.

What I actually want to say is this: these three are perfect examples that you won't always be at the top. So enjoy your time while it lasts—before people begin to say things like “during the era of…”

And we’re not just talking about athletes. Even world leaders eventually come down from the top.

Look at Joe Biden. He was once the President of the United States— the leader of the world’s foremost superpower. At that time, many countries probably sent requests and offered gestures of friendship. Now, Donald Trump is the president, and the same people are flocking to Trump because he’s the one in charge. They’ve realized that Biden can’t give any favors anymore—he’s no longer in power.

This principle applies to artistes as well. Take Skales, for example. Though he recently re-blew thanks to Lamine Yamal using his song "Shake Body" on TikTok, everyone had pretty much forgotten he existed. Naturally, he can't chat up to some of the newer artistes—even though he blew up before them. Of course, "Shake Body" was and still is a classic. One thing I admire about Skales is how he’s still pushing that same craft nearly 10 years later—no signs of arrogance. And yes, there's nothing wrong with being proud of your work—but don’t be arrogant, because no one stays at the top forever.

Back to Ronaldo, Messi, and LeBron—football and basketball are trying to move on from these legends. People are already attempting to instigate new rivalries, even pitting their children—Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. and Thiago Messi—against each other. LeBron’s son, Bronny Jr., is also now playing professional basketball, and people are holding these young players to the impossible standard of their fathers, just to keep the legacy alive.

Honestly, I feel bad for the kids. The pressure is too much.

Anyway, the truth remains: You won't always be at the top. But what you do while you’re there—that’swhat really matters.
