Former Chairman of the Nigerian-American Public Affairs Committee in Texas, Mr. Ike Chidolue, has called on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to provide solid evidence supporting her serious allegations or resign from her Senate position. Akpoti-Uduaghan, currently suspended and representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, recently accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to assassinate her. Chidolue, in a statement issued Sunday in Abuja, responded to these claims and the senator’s rebuttal of a Facebook Live broadcast by Dr. Sandra Duru (also known as Prof. Mgbeke), which contained recordings and screenshots contradicting Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public statements.
Describing the senator’s response as lacking in substance, Chidolue criticized her for failing to offer any forensic or factual backing. He noted a pattern in which the senator resorts to sensationalism and conspiracy narratives when challenged with contrary evidence. If Duru’s materials are indeed authentic, Chidolue warned, they reveal a disturbing misuse of public allegations for political gain.
Chidolue referenced multiple unverified claims made by Akpoti-Uduaghan, including accusations of sexual harassment by Senate President Akpabio, assassination attempts by Yahaya Bello, and involvement of the Akpabios in a minor’s death in 2021. He also pointed to her claim that she was reassigned to the Senate as retaliation for refusing advances. None of these, he stated, have been supported by police reports, court documents, or Senate findings.
To restore public trust, Chidolue outlined a four-step solution. First, he urged the senator to subject Duru’s recordings to an independent forensic analysis. Next, he advised her to produce police reports or official records supporting her accusations or take legal action if defamed. If these steps cannot be fulfilled, he suggested she issue a public apology and resign.
Chidolue emphasized that public offices are not platforms for unverified drama. “Nigerians deserve leaders who deal in facts, not theatrics,” he said. “The time for speculation is over—Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan must now choose: bring evidence or step down.”
