Turkish national Arda Güler provided a goal and an assist in Real Madrid’s victory over Celta Vigo in La Liga.
Since his move from Fenerbahçe, Arda has barely received playing time despite his talent. In fact, for that reason alone, fire Carlo Ancelotti, then hire him again and fire him one more time! Thankfully, Arda is finally getting his chance—even if it’s still under Ancelotti. Hopefully, Endrick will be given a similar opportunity when the time comes.
Of course, according to Fabrizio Romano, Xabi Alonso—who is the favorite to replace Ancelotti—has been a long-time admirer of the 20-year-old. He even wanted him at Bayer Leverkusen last year.
Back to the match: Arda opened the scoring in the 33rd minute from an assist by Lucas Vázquez. Six minutes later, Kylian Mbappé doubled the lead after receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham. Then, just three minutes into the second half, Arda delivered a beautiful through ball to set up Mbappé for his second and Real Madrid’s third. The delivery from Arda was simply perfect.
Despite the lead, Madrid’s defense began to slack. Sure, they were missing key players—Rüdiger, who has been playing through injury, and David Alaba, who has been out forever—but the real issue lies in poor player management. The club blatantly refused to sign reinforcements in January, forcing Rüdiger to play on an injured knee for nearly seven months.
Celta Vigo pulled one back in the 69th minute through Rodríguez, and added another in the 76th. They could have even scored a third if not for Courtois’ quick thinking to snatch the ball.
Honestly, you know something’s wrong when your keeper concedes two goals and isn't at fault for either.
Back to Arda—he didn’t just have a good game. He had a perfect game, passing both the eye test and the stats test.
He played a total of 83 minutes, scoring once and providing an assist. He also created two big chances, completed all 62 of his passes (100% accuracy), and made three key passes. Star boy.
Mbappé was named Man of the Match for his brace, but for me, Arda deserved it more.
