Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the current season, ending a deeply emotional 20-year journey with his hometown team.

The 26-year-old made the revelation in a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, calling it the most difficult decision he has ever had to make. “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” he said. “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

Alexander-Arnold, who rose through the club’s youth system to become a cornerstone of the senior team, explained that he had chosen to remain silent about his future until Liverpool’s campaign for a 20th league title had concluded. “I know many of you have wondered why I haven’t spoken about this, but I wanted to keep my focus on helping the team,” he noted.

He reflected warmly on his two decades with the Reds, expressing deep gratitude for the support he received from the club and its fanbase. “This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years,” he said. “The love and backing from everyone at the club and the supporters is something I will cherish forever.”

The England international emphasized that his departure is not out of dissatisfaction, but rather a desire to grow by stepping out of his comfort zone. “I’ve never known anything but Liverpool, and this is about challenging myself professionally and personally,” he explained.

Throughout his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold has been known for his exceptional passing range, creativity, and commitment. “I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been here,” he said, adding that he hoped fans felt the same level of devotion in return.

He closed his message with heartfelt thanks to everyone who had shaped his journey. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you all. I’ve been fortunate to live my dreams here. My love for Liverpool will never fade.”

Alexander-Arnold leaves behind a decorated legacy, including triumphs in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup.
