A tragic incident unfolded in Jigawa State, where a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, allegedly killed his father, Salisu Abubakar, using a machete. The crime occurred around 10 a.m. in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, located in the Sara District of Gwaram Local Government Area.
The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday. According to the police, the young man launched a brutal attack on his father, inflicting deep machete wounds to his shoulder, neck, and chest.
Following the assault, the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending medical doctor. Adam noted that the Divisional Police Officer in Sara swiftly responded to the distress report and led a patrol team to the scene, where they secured the area and recovered the body for hospital transport.
The police also confirmed that the murder weapon—a machete—was recovered at the scene, and the suspect, Muhammad Salisu, was promptly arrested. The body was later released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a detailed and thorough investigation. He emphasized the commitment of the police command to ensure justice is served and that such violent crimes are treated with the seriousness they deserve.
The motive behind the gruesome act remains unknown at this time. Adam stated that investigations are ongoing to determine what led the suspect to commit such a heinous crime. He urged members of the public who may have information related to the case to come forward and support the police in their inquiries.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody, and authorities have assured that he will be prosecuted according to the law once investigations are concluded.
