Atiku’s Media Team Slams Bwala Over “Destiny” Remark, Reaffirms Political Focus

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently advised the former vice president to accept that leading Nigeria might not be his destiny. Speaking during a televised interview, Bwala stated, “If I had the chance to speak with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar directly, I’d tell him to embrace destiny. Leadership comes from God, and perhaps it’s not in His plan for you to be president.”

In response, Atiku’s media office sharply criticized Bwala’s comments, calling them “bitter and hypocritical.” In a statement issued Tuesday, the media team labeled Bwala a “political opportunist” and “turncoat,” noting that his current platform and visibility stem from his previous role under Atiku’s leadership—a fact they say should inspire humility, not arrogance.

The statement read, “It’s both ironic and unfortunate that Mr. Bwala, who once championed Atiku’s campaign, now lectures him on retirement and destiny. Atiku Abubakar’s legacy does not depend on approval from political defectors who shift allegiance without principle.”

Atiku’s camp further accused President Tinubu’s administration of being fixated on Atiku, questioning the consistent attacks against the opposition leader. “If Atiku is irrelevant, why the constant targeting?” the statement asked, adding that Atiku remains the most formidable opposition figure in Nigeria. They described his growing coalition as a real threat to the ruling party and a movement poised to rescue the country from decline.

Highlighting his national influence, Atiku’s team stated that his legacy is not about holding office but about his unwavering dedication to unity, development, and democratic values. They called him a patriot whose reputation cannot be erased by “the bitterness of political defectors.”

Reacting to Bwala’s claim that Atiku has lost up to 70 percent of his political allies, the media office dismissed such assertions, insisting the former vice president remains “focused and unshaken.” They reiterated that rebuilding Nigeria remains a mission of national urgency that will not be distracted by political maneuvering or ego-driven rhetoric.
