An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has allegedly impregnated 10 girls within a span of five months, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. The startling revelation was made by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, during a live social media broadcast on Wednesday.
According to reports, the teenager was initially sent to serve as an apprentice under a master. However, just three months into his apprenticeship, he reportedly impregnated both the daughter of his master and a salesgirl working for the same family. This led to his immediate dismissal and return to his village.
Obinabo explained that the situation worsened after the boy returned home. Within just two additional months, he allegedly impregnated eight more girls in the village, raising the total to 10.
“This matter has gone beyond my control,” Obinabo stated. “The boy was only sent to learn a trade, and now we have 10 teenage pregnancies to deal with. I am calling on the public to advise me on the next steps because this might be more than a social issue—it could even be spiritual.”
She added that the boy’s mother had visited her office in a state of distress. “She told me that every time she sees a girl approaching their house, her heart skips. She pleaded for help, saying she no longer knows what to do,” Obinabo recounted.
In her conversation with the boy, Obinabo said she asked how he managed to persuade the girls. “He told me he simply professes love and promises to marry them once he becomes wealthy. That’s all it takes,” she said.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the identities of the boy, his mother, and their community have been withheld. However, Obinabo is urging the public, community leaders, and experts to contribute suggestions for an appropriate solution, describing the situation as both shocking and deeply concerning.
