Chelsea are set to face Real Betis in the Conference League final, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 28 May. Chelsea qualified after beating Djurgården 5-1 on aggregate. In the first leg of the semi-finals, Chelsea won 4-1, and in the second leg, a single goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Blues
If Chelsea defeat Betis, they would become the first team to win the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League—a historic achievement.
However, Chelsea face an uphill task, especially as they will have to deal with Manchester United loanee, Antony. Often labelled a Manchester United flop, Antony experienced a revival after his loan move to Real Betis in January.
Just like he once said: "You would hear the name Antony in relation to goals and assists." Well, he isn’t wrong. Some say leaving Manchester United helped him rediscover his form—but I don’t believe that theory. I think the pressure of the price tag United paid Ajax may have dented his confidence.
Regardless, he’s now thriving at Betis. He scored a free-kick and assisted the winning goal against Fiorentina to help Betis reach the final. In extra time, he set up Ezzalzouli, whose goal ensured Betis advanced on aggregate. This came after Gosens of Fiorentina had scored twice to level the tie.
Chelsea also have a Manchester United loanee in their squad: Jadon Sancho, and he hasn’t been doing too badly either.
Chelsea and Real Betis will be battling not only for the trophy but also for automatic qualification to the Europa League, which is granted to the Conference League winners.
Despite being just one win away from Europa League football, both teams are also fighting for a top-five finish in their respective domestic leagues to secure Champions League spots.
Still, you have to admit—a Conference League title would look good on their CVs. And well, a cup is a cup.
The final will be held at Stadion Wrocław in Wrocław, Poland and it will be one to watch.
