Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that they will give Liverpool, the Premier League champions, a guard of honor when they meet on Sunday, despite being to set to finish second in the Premier League for a record third consecutive time.

Arsenal are set to play Liverpool at  Anfield in a bid to maintain their second-place finish. Speaking at a press conference, Arteta also addressed several pressing issues, including their recent UEFA Champions League semi-final exit after being knocked out by PSG with a 3-1 aggregate score.

According to Arteta, he felt the team came back stronger.

Addressing whether he would give Liverpool a guard of honor, he said:

"They deserve that. They've been the best team, they've been the most consistent, and what Arne and the coaching staff have done has been fascinating—it's been really good. They fully deserve it, and that's the sport. If somebody's better, you have to approve and accept and try to reach that level."

Recall that Chelsea last week also gave Liverpool a guard of honor at Stamford Bridge before defeating the Premier League champions 3-1 to continue their fight for a top-five finish.

This is not the first time Arsenal have given the Premier League winners a guard of honor while finishing second. They previously did the same for Manchester City after narrowly missing the title by a few points.

Nevertheless, there is a belief that their time will eventually come and someone else will give them a guard of honor.

Arsenal have shown their class by choosing to honor Liverpool on Sunday, despite enduring another painful trophyless season.

Liverpool were officially crowned Premier League champions for the 2024/2025 season after a 4-1 win against Tottenham.

Rest assured, Arsenal’s time will eventually come—if they choose to head into the market this summer and rebuild. But if they’re comfortable giving guard of honors every season, they might as well stay in their comfort zone.

What do you think about Arsenal giving Liverpool a guard of honor?
