Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller played his last home game at the Allianz Arena in Munich on May 10th, 2025. Müller joined the Bayern academy at age 10 and made his senior debut in 2008.
Recall that the 35-year-old has announced he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season, ending a remarkable 17-year career as a professional athlete for the club. During his time, he played 750 games, scored 247 goals, provided 176 assists, and won 13 Bundesliga titles, 2 Champions League titles, 2 Club World Cups, 6 DFB-Pokals, 2 UEFA Super Cups, and 8 DFB Super Cups.
Müller was given an emotional farewell at his last home game and his penultimate game, with a special tifo made in his honor. The German midfielder was also presented with a plaque by the club. He received a standing ovation from the Munich crowd, thanking him for his contributions to the club's success. Müller was also given a guard of honor as he was subbed off.
He also lifted his last trophy—the Bundesliga—which was secured last week. Interestingly, while Müller lifted his last ever trophy with Bayern, Harry Kane lifted his first ever professional trophy.
Müller's loyalty to Bayern Munich is rare. The footballer played his entire professional career with the club.
Fans will also remember how Müller, once the backbone of the team, humbly accepted a supporting role to allow younger players to shine. Despite being relegated to the bench this season due to his age, Müller was always seen smiling.
Of course, it will be difficult to see Müller in another jersey—if he chooses to continue his professional career instead of retiring. But sometimes, we have to admit that no matter how good you were in your prime, age will eventually catch up, and you won’t be able to do things the same way anymore.
Sometimes, we have to let go.
Goodbye, Müller. Leader. Legend.
Danke, Thomas, as they say in German
