The Club World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 13, with a special transfer window approved by FIFA to allow clubs to not only register new players but also extend the contracts of players whose deals are expiring, enabling them to participate in the tournament. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Vázquez's contract will be extended to allow him to take part in the Club World Cup, after which he will leave Real Madrid as a free agent to begin a new chapter in his career.
Vázquez joined Real Madrid’s youth team in 2007. However, in 2014, he was loaned to Espanyol, with the move eventually becoming permanent. Real Madrid later exercised their buy-back option and brought him back to the team, promoting him to the first team, where he made his debut in 2015, even providing an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s fifth goal in that match.
During his time at Madrid, Vázquez has made 398 appearances, scoring 38 goals and providing 77 assists, winning 20+ major titles, including:
5 UEFA Champions League titles
4 La Liga titles
4 Spanish Super Cups
1 Intercontinental Cup
3 FIFA Club World Cups
4 UEFA Super Cups,
among other honors.
Primarily an attacking winger, he was often converted to right-back, especially during injury crises. Despite facing criticism from some Madrid fans in recent seasons—mainly for his performances as a full-back—Vázquez has consistently shown professionalism and dedication to the club.
One of his standout moments came during the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final against Juventus, where he provided an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s second goal, helping Madrid secure their champions League title. Another moment happened in the 2016 UCL where he calmly slotted his penalty in as the first penalty taker against Athletico Madrid to secure the title for his team
Real Madrid is also planning to sign a new center-back and left-back this summer, with reinforcements expected as part of their summer transfer strategy.
