Stop The Childish Defences-Kwasi Pratt Break Silence On Sammy Gyamfi's Cash Gift To Agradaa
Respected journalist and editor of the (Insight Newspaper), Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has weighed in on the recent uproar involving a viral video of NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi handing over large sums of money to evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa. Pratt expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the public explanations so far as lacking seriousness and transparency.
The footage, which shows Gyamfi handing what appears to be bundles of U.S. dollars to Agradaa, has raised eyebrows nationwide, with questions mounting over the source of the money and the nature of the transaction. According to Pratt, the matter goes beyond politics and cuts to the core of public accountability.
“This is not an NDC versus NPP issue,” Pratt said in an interview. “It’s about integrity and transparency. Ghanaians deserve clarity.”
The situation has drawn sharp reactions from members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye criticized Gyamfi’s seemingly lavish lifestyle, particularly his use of a 2025 model Range Rover. MP for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, also demanded answers, especially in light of Gyamfi’s role in GoldBod, the newly established Ghana Gold Board, which reportedly received a government investment of \$279 million to manage the country’s gold sector.
Pratt echoed these concerns, emphasizing that public officials must be held to higher standards of accountability.
“If someone in a leadership position is seen displaying sudden wealth, we have every right to question the source,” he said. “This isn’t about envy—it’s about trust. Ghanaians need leaders they can believe in.”
He cautioned that failure to provide straightforward answers could undermine confidence in key institutions like GoldBod, especially as it is still finding its footing.
“Let’s not hide behind partisan loyalty or emotional defenses. The best way forward is honesty. If this was a genuine act of kindness, say it. But don’t leave room for speculation.”
Adding further complexity to the issue is an earlier clash between Gyamfi and veteran broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi. In 2019, the two were at odds after Gyamfi publicly criticized Sefa Kayi for allegedly being biased in his coverage of a leaked audio involving then-NDC Chairman Ofosu Ampofo.
At the time, Gyamfi accused the broadcaster of using his platform to damage the NDC’s image and claimed he would have acted differently had the audio come from the NPP. Sefa Kayi, in response, demanded an apology but later offered forgiveness, advising Gyamfi that leadership often comes with public scrutiny.
“You’re a bright young man and a lawyer,” Sefa Kayi told him. “Someday, you’ll understand how it feels when the tables turn.”
Fast-forward to the present, many observers see a striking parallel, as Gyamfi now faces criticism and public backlash over what he described as a charitable gesture. What was once a political sparring match has now become a lesson in public accountability and the unpredictable nature of leadership.
With pressure mounting, Gyamfi has yet to offer a detailed explanation beyond stating that the gesture was meant to assist someone in need. Whether that answer will satisfy the public—and silence his critics—remains to be seen.
