Ghanaians React As Sammy Gyamfi Makes Headlines Again After Another Lady Displays Dollars

Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and a leading figure in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has once again come under public scrutiny following the circulation of a new viral video on social media platform X. The latest controversy follows closely on the heels of an earlier incident involving his dollar gift to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, founder of the Heaven Way Church.

Though the earlier issue appeared to be resolved—especially after Gyamfi publicly apologized and the Presidency, through spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acknowledged and accepted the apology—public interest has surged again with the emergence of new footage.

In this new video, Gyamfi is seen taking a photo with a woman known online as ‘Efya Dragon.’ Shortly after the election period, Efya posted a video flaunting bundles of U.S. currency while mocking someone she referred to as "Kwapiah" for not waiting long enough to enjoy the benefits of the campaign. Her posts, combined with her open support for the NDC, have led to widespread speculation that the money may have been a reward for political work—though she has not confirmed the source of the funds, and no direct evidence links Gyamfi to the cash.

The resurfacing of the controversy has prompted sharp reactions, including from outspoken businessman and politician Kennedy Agyapong. Speaking at the 2025 YouthQuake Conference on Entrepreneurship and National Leadership at Central University, Agyapong condemned Gyamfi’s actions, stating unequivocally that if he were president, Gyamfi would no longer hold office.

“There’s more than enough reason to dismiss him,” Agyapong said. “A serious government must be built on discipline, transparency, and integrity. If I were in charge, Sammy Gyamfi would have been relieved of his duties already.”

He further emphasized that under his leadership, there would be no tolerance for nepotism or favoritism. “No ‘party loyalist’ excuse, no ‘my friend’ or ‘my brother’ exemptions. If we want to move forward as a nation, we must be guided by discipline and put Ghana first.”

Agyapong’s remarks have intensified an already heated public debate. Some members of the public view Gyamfi’s actions as inappropriate for a public official, especially one linked to a sensitive national institution like the Ghana Gold Board. Others argue that his financial gestures may have been made in good faith, without any political agenda.

Despite the controversy, former President John Dramani Mahama—who is closely associated with Gyamfi—has reportedly pardoned him, signaling a desire to move past the incident. However, with new allegations surfacing and more voices chiming in, the story appears far from over.
