Mohamed Salah spoke to Gary Neville on Sky Sports about a lot of things, including Thierry Henry's assist record. The Liverpool winger revealed that he wanted to break the record, but it wasn't easy—especially as they had nothing to play for since they had already won the Premier League.
One interesting issue Salah addressed was about Liverpool's vice-captain and his teammate, soon-to-be ex-teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Recall that Trent announced that he was leaving the Reds on a free transfer after spending 20 years with the club.
This announcement, however, did not go down well with some Liverpool fans, who expected him to be more loyal—at least not leaving his childhood club on a free transfer when his market value is about 100 million euros. This section of fans expressed their displeasure by booing the right-back when he was subbed on for Conor Bradley in their game against Arsenal.
What made it worse was that he was the one who kept Arsenal's equalizing goal onside. Though the boos eventually significantly reduced after Trent's free kick.
However, speaking about the incident, Salah defended his teammate:
"I think he didn't deserve it at the time. He deserved the fans to treat him the best way possible because he gave it all to the fans."
Salah believes that Trent deserved the best farewell possible because he had given 20 years to the club. He noted that he was sad about the boos.
Salah noted that fans should be appreciative of anyone who had worn the Liverpool colors.
According to him, he was also sad to lose a teammate, but he acknowledged that Trent needed a new challenge.
Salah's support for his friend and teammate has been met with mixed feelings from Liverpool fans, with some agreeing with the winger while others believe that Trent deserved more boos—especially as he is leaving the club without generating any revenue from a sale.
The last home match of the season against Brighton will definitely tell how Liverpool fans feel about their London boy leaving.
