Dean Huijsen is set to join Real Madrid after his release clause was activated. This was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, who gave the signature "Here We Go." In a statement released by his soon-to-be former club, AFC Bournemouth, it was confirmed that the Spanish center-back would leave the Premier League side in time for the Club World Cup, scheduled to be held from June to July. The statement read:
"AFC Bournemouth can confirm that defender Dean Huijsen will join Real Madrid following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, with the Spanish side having activated a £50 million release clause."
The club revealed that Huijsen would remain available for their final two Premier League games before officially joining Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid also released an official statement confirming his signing. According to the statement, Huijsen will sign a five-year contract running from 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2030.
Huijsen’s transfer is the first official signing announced by Real Madrid for the Club World Cup. Although Trent Alexander-Arnold is also expected to join the club—having received the "Here We Go" from Fabrizio Romano—Madrid is still hoping he will be released from his current contract in time for the tournament.
Huijsen has been instrumental for both Bournemouth and Spain this season. He was even nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award due to his outstanding performances.
His signing reflects Real Madrid’s plan to strengthen their defense, which has struggled this season. The team has suffered several losses, including a recent El Clasico defeat, largely due to defensive instability. Injuries have further weakened the squad, with players like Antonio Rüdiger being forced to play while injured because of the lack of reinforcements.
Though the transfer window has yet to officially open, Real Madrid has already begun making moves, with reports suggesting they may also be in the market for a midfielder.
This signing marks the first under Xabi Alonso, who is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as head coach in time for thehe Club World Cup.
