Although Dean Huijsen joined Bournemouth in July of last year, Madrid has been keeping eyes on him since he was a young youngster at Málaga.
Madrid fulfills the desired 20-year-old's release clause.
Numerous elite teams had their eye on the defender. Real Madrid has finally signed Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen. The Spanish team agreed to pay a £50 million release clause, and the 20-year-old defender—who has also been targeted by Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Newcastle—will join them at the end of the current campaign.
When he was a young player at Málaga, Real Madrid made an attempt to recruit the Netherlands-born Spain international, and they have since followed the former Juventus and Roma defender's development. The former Spain and Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is a football idol of Huijsen's. In 2024, following a loan stint at Roma, Huijsen joined Bournemouth.
His hiring coincides with the beginning of the La Liga squad's reconstruction, as Xabi Alonso is expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as manager of Madrid. Ancelotti is also taking over the Brazil national team. Following a season in which the European champions lost their La Liga title to their bitter rivals, Barcelona, and were eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals by Arsenal, the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen will take over.
As his status as one of Europe's most talented young players grew, the Amsterdam native made 30 appearances in the top level this season and scored goals against.
Despite playing for the Dutch from the under-16 to the under-19 levels, Huijsen last year swore allegiance to Spain after his family relocated there from the Netherlands when he was five years old. In March, he received his first caps for the senior squad of Spain.
"The transfer of player Dean Huijsen, who is committed to our club for the next five seasons, from 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2030, has been agreed upon by Real Madrid CF and AFC Bournemouth," the Madrid statement said.
"Everyone at AFC Bournemouth is looking forward to working with Dean for the remaining two games of the Premier League season, before he embarks on the next step of his career," Bournemouth had previously stated on their website. On Tuesday, Bournemouth travels to Manchester City, and on Sunday, May 25, they host Leicester.
"Huijsen is a great player, young, with a lot of potential," Ancelotti stated on Saturday. The signing, in my opinion, is excellent for Real Madrid. Madrid's season has been severely impacted by defender injuries, and Ancelotti emphasized the significance of fortifying the defense.
