President Mahama appoints the youngest man Nana Adu Sarpong Addo for Abuakwa South as MCE.

Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa South Municipality, has expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating him to serve in the position.

He credited his appointment to the President’s trust in his competence to effectively represent him at the municipal level and pledged to justify this confidence by diligently executing his responsibilities and advancing the reset agenda promised by President Mahama.

As part of his commitment to transformative leadership, Mr. Addo-Aikins has outlined key developmental priorities, including education, sanitation, road infrastructure, health, and social intervention policies, all aligned with President Mahama’s broader national vision.

He welcomed President Mahama’s recent announcement to decentralize the national sanitation budget—empowering districts to take full control of sanitation management—and pledged to make Abuakwa South a model municipality under the new performance framework, where cleanliness will be a key indicator for all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). This announcement was made during a durbar at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa, Greater Accra, on Friday, May 16, as part of the President’s ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’.

In response, Mr. Addo-Aikins vowed to strengthen sanitation efforts within the municipality, ensuring it ranks among the best in the country under the revised evaluation system.

He also expressed deep appreciation to Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin for his continued support in the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. Acknowledging the severe impact of galamsey on the environment and public health, the MCE committed to working closely with traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and community members to curb the menace.

“Illegal mining is a threat to our environment, human life, the economy, and social well-being,” he said. “I will therefore partner with our respected traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and residents to combat galamsey. The Mahama administration is committed to this fight, and as his representative, I will play my part in addressing the issue decisively.”

Mr. Addo-Aikins also assured residents of his dedication to their welfare and pledged to promote inclusive development. He promised to enhance security by working towards a 24-hour safety framework to make the municipality safer for all.

To ensure participatory governance, he announced plans to regularly engage with key stakeholders, including market leaders, transport unions, representatives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and assembly members. These interactions, he said, will focus on identifying challenges and uncovering opportunities for sustainable development.

He concluded by expressing heartfelt gratitude to the chiefs from various traditional areas, party leadership, National Democratic Congress supporters, opinion leaders, and residents for their unwavering support and prayers.

“I assure you that your support and prayers will not be in vain,” he said. “Your steadfast backing since my nomination has been invaluable. With your continued support, I am committed to delivering results that meet your expectations.”
