Viktor Gyökeres is set to leave Portuguese side Sporting CP this summer. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sporting is prepared to sell him for €65 million, with several top European clubs interested in the 26-year-old striker.
Gyökeres began his career at IF Brommapojkarna in Sweden at the age of 16 before being signed by Brighton. However, he was loaned out to:
FC St. Pauli (Germany) in the 2019–2020 season,
Swansea City in the 2020–2021 season, and
Coventry City (England) in the 2021 season,
before joining Championship side Coventry City on a permanent deal, where he impressed with his performances.
In July 2023, Gyökeres signed a five-year contract with Sporting CP in a club-record €20 million deal.
He has helped Sporting win the Primeira Liga in both the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons. In the 2023 season, Gyökeres made 46 competitive appearances, scoring 35 goals and providing 13 assists.
In 2025, he made 48 appearances, netting 51 goals and registering 12 assists. He is currently leading the race for the European Golden Boot.
His heroics—both at Sporting and with the Swedish national team—have made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, alongside fellow Swede Alexander Isak and Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.
Many clubs, especially in the English Premier League, are in need of a top striker. Arsenal and Manchester United are already reportedly in the market, with Gyökeres linked to both clubs as well as Chelsea.
Regarding his future, the Swedish striker revealed that he didn’t want to talk about it yet—he simply wants to enjoy winning the Portuguese championship with Sporting. Therefore, a final decision regarding the next club of one of the most in-demand strikers in world football has yet to be made.
Will he join Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, or perhaps a club outside England like Barcelona or Real Madrid?
Well, we’ll just have to wait and see whatever decision he makes in the summer transfer window
