MANCHESTER UNITED JUST BOTTLED A CHANCE TO PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
2024/2025 Europa League final was played out a few hours ago. With Tottenham winning the final by 1-0. Tottenham’s victory just brought an end to their 17 years trophy drought. But their opponent, Manchester United were left devastated after losing the finals. So one must ask what this means to United?
MISSING OUT ON CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Manchester United would have secured a place in the Champions League next season if they had won the Europa League. They are currently 16th in the league, which means they didn't qualify to play in Europe next season. And their only hope to qualify was to win the Europa League finals which they failed to do. But that isn't the end of their problems.
The introduction of the Club World Cup has turned most clubs in Europe's attention to the Champions League, because playing in the Champions League and winning it is the only way to play in the Club World Cup.
Let me explain. The Club World Cup is a new tournament introduced by FIFA for all clubs to participate in. The tournament features 32 clubs in the world. EUFA has 12 slots it's clubs. Clubs that win the Champions League in the four year range gets an automatic qualification to the tournament. While the 8 slots left are giving to clubs based on their performance in the Champions League.
This means Manchester United has to win the Champions League to get an automatic qualification or put out a great performance to qualify for the tournament.
But this dream looks vail, because United didn't play in the Champions League this season and failed to qualify for next one.
This means Manchester United has neither a Champions League trophy nor performance point to qualify for the tournament.
So what should Manchester United do?
Manchester United must upgrade their performance in the EPL season 2025/2026 to qualify for Champions League, the following season and try to win it.
