Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been asked to leave Manchester United by coach Rúben Amorim. This comes in the wake of their Europa League final loss to Tottenham. Despite not registering a single shot on target, Tottenham won the match thanks to a deflection by Luke Shaw into his own net.
However, what fans are also talking about is Amorim’s squad selection, particularly his decision to start players like Luke Shaw and Mason Mount. Notably, Garnacho was left out of the starting XI in favor of Mount and came on for only 20 minutes. Many wondered why Amorim chose to start Mount despite Garnacho being a regular starter for most of the Europa League campaign.
When asked at the post-match press conference why he chose Mount over Garnacho, Amorim responded that the question was only being raised because they had lost. He went on to state that Garnacho had also missed big chances in crucial matches.
Amorim’s statement may have been, or may not have been, misconstrued—however, Garnacho’s brother took to Instagram to express frustration. In his story, he wrote: “Working as no one else, helping every round just to be on the pitch 19 mins and get thrown under the bus. Wow hajjahhhh.”
Also Garnacho when asked about his future hinted about the possibility of leaving United
Apparently, this did not go down well with Amorim, who has now asked the 20-year-old to find a new club, according to reports by David Ornstein. Amorim is said to have made the statement during a meeting with Manchester United players at Carrington.
Also, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that United would be willing to listen to offers for the player. Recall that Napoli made an offer for him in January, although the deal never materialized. He was also linked to Chlesea in January. Garnacho, a product of United’s academy, may now be set to say goodbye to the club this summer.
