Ablakwa Under Fire As Ntim Fordjour Demands Resignation Over Prof Naana Jane's Private Jet Use

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a leading member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and former Deputy Minister of Education, has called for the immediate resignation of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. His demand follows reports that Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang recently returned to Ghana on a private jet.

In a direct post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Fordjour challenged Ablakwa to step down, citing his earlier stance against the use of private jets by top government officials. “Okudzeto Ablakwa… do the noble thing and resign with immediate effect. You hang yourself with your words!” Fordjour declared, urging the minister to hold himself accountable to the same standards he once advocated.

Fordjour pointed to Ablakwa’s track record of criticizing previous administrations for chartering private jets, especially for presidential and vice-presidential travel. In the past, Ablakwa frequently shared detailed breakdowns of the costs, questioning the justification for such expenditures and framing them as a misuse of taxpayer funds. His passionate arguments won him a reputation as an advocate for accountability.

Now, Fordjour argues that Ablakwa’s actions in government contradict the principles he once championed. “You were categorical in your vow. You dared Ghanaians that you would immediately resign as Minister if your Presidency used a private jet in their regime,” Fordjour recalled, suggesting that the Vice President’s reported use of a private aircraft—allegedly at public expense—puts Ablakwa in a compromising position.

Fordjour further clarified that while the use of private jets is not inherently wrong, particularly when the presidential aircraft is unavailable, it becomes problematic when those who once condemned such decisions now defend or remain silent about them. “Be a man of PRINCIPLES and RESIGN!” he urged, suggesting that Ablakwa must prove whether he stands by the values he once so passionately espoused, or whether his earlier criticisms were purely for political gain.

As of now, Ablakwa has not publicly responded to Fordjour’s demand, leaving the issue open for public debate. The controversy has once again sparked discussions about government accountability, spending priorities, and the importance of consistency in public service.

Supporters of Fordjour believe that Ablakwa’s lack of a response suggests an admission of hypocrisy, while others argue that the calls for his resignation are politically motivated and premature. The incident has reignited debates over government spending and the scrutiny of public officials, especially as the public waits to see if Ablakwa will address the issue directly.

For now, Ghanaians are closely watching to see how the situation unfolds, with many hoping for greater transparency and consistency from their leaders.
