Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool have all qualified for the Champions League, as the final round of the Premier League was played today. Recall that the Premier League has five spots for the Champions League, so only a top-five finish guarantees participation in the UCL next season.
Liverpool were the first to secure qualification, having won the Premier League, which gives them an automatic spot as champions. Arsenal followed, finishing second for the third consecutive time.
However, the main battle was between Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest. Tottenham qualified by winning the UEFA Champions League, earning the Premier League an extra sixth spot.
Chelsea, Villa, City, Forest, and Newcastle were all set to play European football next season, but their specific competitions depended on their final league positions. Chelsea secured a UCL spot after defeating Nottingham Forest 1–0 with Levi Colwill scoring the lone goal, finishing fourth. Also Chelsea also has a conference league finals with Real Betis too and if they win since they have already gotten a spot in the UCL,they would be given the choice between the Europa and UCL.City also secured their place with a 2–0 win, courtesy of a bicycle kick goal from Gündoğan and a penalty goal from Erling Haaland
Despite Newcastle losing to Everton, they still clinched a UCL spot after Manchester United beat Aston Villa. Ironically, this was one of the most meaningless games of the season for United — yet it was the one they chose to win. Villa suffered a major setback when their goalkeeper Emiliano MartÃnez received a red card in the 45+1 minute for charging at Rasmus Højlund. Amusingly, Højlund might have missed the chance anyway, but it is what it is — the keeper was sent off in what appeared to be his final game for Villa.
Both Villa and Forest will play in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, respectively, after finishing sixth and seventh.
