Trent Alexander-Arnold was given a warm send-off at Anfield by Liverpool fans, despite being booed just a few matches ago when he was subbed on at the Emirates. The reaction of the Liverpool fans has since changed. When he was subbed on for Conor Bradley in the 46th minute, he was cheered and applauded.
This was his last game as a Liverpool player.
One would wonder what changed between the Arsenal match and his final appearance. For me, I think the fans couldn’t really process it at first, and that’s why he was booed. But now that they’ve accepted he’s leaving, they gave him a farewell deserving of a Liverpool legend.
A few minutes after Trent came on for Conor Bradley, he made a superb pass to Darwin Núñez—showcasing what Liverpool fans are going to miss next season. However, a few minutes later, he failed to mark a Crystal Palace player in the danger zone (typical Trent).
Trent was visibly emotional in his last game. On the substitute bench, he was in tears. After the match, he cried with his family, kissed the Liverpool badge, and waved to the Anfield crowd as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Trent said: “I told the coach, I want to play one more time.”
He revealed that he didn’t know what kind of reception to expect at Anfield after being booed a few weeks ago. However, he stated that he had never felt so much love as he did after the warm reception he received today.
He also said: “I hope that one day people recognize what I have done for this club. I have never for once thought about myself.”
At the end of the match after singing the 'You would never walk alone Anthem" for the last time , he was seen sitting on the floor, taking it all in.
He is set to join Real Madrid as a free agent, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
