Lordina Mahama, born on March 6, 1963, in the Nkoranza District of Ghana’s Brong-Ahafo Region, is the current First Lady of Ghana as of January 7, 2025. She previously served in the same capacity from July 2012 to January 2017 during her husband John Dramani Mahama’s earlier presidency.Before becoming First Lady, she was Ghana’s Second Lady from 2009 to 2012 when John Mahama was Vice President.
Lordina spent her early years in both the Brong-Ahafo Region and in Tamale, Northern Ghana. She attended Tishigu Anglican Elementary School and later Ghana Secondary School in Tamale, where she met her future husband. Her career path began with professional training at Flair Catering Services. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), followed by a Master’s in Governance and Leadership from the same institution. In 2019, she received a Master of Laws (LLM) in Business Law and International Business Law from De Montfort University in the UK.
As First Lady, Lordina Mahama has championed numerous social causes. She has been at the forefront of campaigns against HIV/AIDS, and has promoted breast and cervical cancer awareness. She collaborated with the Ghana AIDS Commission and various health organizations to ensure access to screening and reproductive health services across all ten regions of Ghana.
She also served as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV and AIDS (OAFLA), where she advocated for women's reproductive rights and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Her dedication earned her multiple accolades and global recognition.
Lordina Mahama is also the founder of the Lordina Mahama Foundation, which supports orphanages and vulnerable groups such as women accused of witchcraft at the Gambaga Witch Camp. Her foundation has provided food, clothing, hygiene products, and medical supplies, while also establishing vocational training centers for women and girls.
Fluent in English, Twi, Hausa, and Dagbani, she is a proud mother of five: Shafik, Shahid, Sharaf, Jesse, and Farida. Her life is rooted in compassion, service, and empowering communities.
