NDC Is Doing Everything Right” – Kennedy Agyapong Warns NPP Against Internal Chaos.
Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a one-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has sounded a strong warning to the NPP. He urged the party to put an immediate stop to internal divisions and petty politicking if it hopes to return to power in the 2028 general elections. His message: unity is the only path forward.
“This Is Not the Time for Divisions”
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the forecourt of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Agyapong didn’t mince words. He expressed deep disappointment in the behavior of some NPP members at a time when the party should be rallying behind one of its own—Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
“I am very disappointed,” he said. “I watched two videos — one by Alex Tetteh and another by a former Fomena NPP Chairman — and I was shocked. This is not the time to bring up personal grievances or destroy others within the party. When we face crises like this, we must present a united front.”
He emphasized that loyalty to the party must outweigh individual agendas. “What the NPP needs right now is not infighting or sabotage but solidarity,” he said, calling this period a crucial test of party discipline.
“If the NPP wants to win power, it must do so through unity,” he added. “This is not the time to settle old scores or reopen internal wounds. We need to show Ghanaians that we are a strong, united team.”
NDC Shows Unity—NPP Must Learn
Agyapong contrasted the NPP's internal wrangling with the unity displayed by their main opponents, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Look at the NDC. Anytime Ato Forson goes to court, all their MPs show up in red to support him. Afterward, they still function as a cohesive group in Parliament. That is what party loyalty looks like,” he said.
“But with the NPP, it’s the opposite. We’re tearing each other apart. Everyone is out for themselves. If this continues, we’ll remain in opposition for a very long time.”
Cheers from the Grassroots
Kennedy’s remarks were met with cheers from party foot soldiers who had gathered at EOCO to support Chairman Wontumi. Many nodded in agreement, saying the party needs “a voice like Ken’s” to speak the truth in turbulent times.
Viral Video Deepens Party Tensions
Agyapong’s comments were triggered by a viral video that has sparked major unrest within the NPP. In the video, Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a known NPP member and former supporter of Kennedy Agyapong during the flagbearer race, claimed he provided authorities with key information that led to Chairman Wontumi’s arrest.
Tetteh, once close to Wontumi but now estranged, said he felt it was his “duty” to expose corruption. He even claimed to have submitted documents and testimonies to back the investigation. His confession has sharply divided the party — some hail him as a defender of the rule of law, while others see him as a traitor who undermined the party during a time of crisis.
Kennedy Agyapong was visibly angry. “Why would an NPP member go public and say he helped arrest his own chairman? What do you gain from that? That is betrayal — and it will cost us dearly in 2028.”
“Don’t Lose Sight of 2028”
Agyapong reminded party members that the next general elections are fast approaching and will be far from easy. He said the NDC will not make it easy for the NPP to return to power and stressed the need for internal discipline.
“2024 is behind us. We lost. Now we must regroup and focus on 2028. But if we continue like this, we’re only helping the NDC to stay in power longer.”
He urged the party’s national leadership — including the National Chairman, General Secretary, and regional executives — to urgently step in and de-escalate the growing tensions. “The silence from our leaders is worsening the situation,” he warned.
Chairman Wontumi’s Arrest: A Test of Loyalty
Chairman Wontumi’s arrest has become a major test of the party’s internal cohesion. Many believe the arrest is politically motivated, especially given its timing — just months after the NDC assumed power.
Wontumi, known for his boldness and influence in the Ashanti Region, has long been seen as a key pillar of the NPP’s grassroots strength. His arrest has therefore sparked frustration among party supporters.
While Agyapong did not delve into legal details, he made it clear that the party must stand by its members — unless proven guilty. “Let the law work, but don’t weaponize it to destroy your own. That’s not justice,” he stated.
Final Words: Stop the Infighting, Rebuild Together
In closing, Kennedy Agyapong delivered a passionate message to NPP members across the country — from top officials to grassroots communicators.
“Enough of the backbiting, the lies, the betrayals. We have only one opponent — and it is not ourselves. If we truly want to win 2028, we must forgive, unite, and refocus on our mission.”
“You may not like Chairman Wontumi, and that’s fine. But when the party is under attack, we defend it. Period.”
He encouraged young party members to rise above past mistakes and focus on building bridges. “We are not just building a party; we are shaping Ghana’s future. Let’s act like it,” he concluded.
Conclusion
Kennedy Agyapong’s message is clear: without unity, the NPP has no future in 2028. With internal divisions growing and the arrest of a key regional figure sparking unrest, the party faces a defining moment. As Ghanaians watch how the NPP navigates this storm, one thing is certain — only a united front will give them any chance of reclaiming power.
