DO YOU THINK E-BOOKS WILL EVER REPLACE HARDCOPIES?

Like in every other aspects of life, change is a always going to be a constant phenomenon. It’s always going to be there. Sometimes they are met with glee, enthusiasm and opportunity for the bravest amongst us who dare to dream every step of the way. Other times, panic( think of AI and the potential impact it will have on some occupations). Either way you want to look at it we are always going to react emotionally to change. We are humans.

When it comes to reading books, we all have distinct ways we settle down to read our favorite book. There are those who just love the smell, the feel of physical books and don’t forget writing down our thoughts on it can be way more pleasing than on a screen. The number one reason I love physical books is the delightful feeling I get when writing on it. I never read a book without writing on it-doing it sends a signal to my brain that I have to pay attention. Also, I just find it aesthetically joyful owning a physical book and satisfying and for this reason I don’t think e-books ( which we will briefly discuss) will replace them. They do not give that same old feeling of something to hold on to, to remember what we were thinking reading it.

Physical though fall short when it comes to convenience, in a sense. There are obviously times when it’s impossible to read the hardcopy of a book. Hardcopy means lots of space is required to be able to have it around, to be honest, they take a whole lot of room even if you happen to have bookshelves.

Furthermore, not all hardcopy version of books are available in every country. There are books for some reason I’m yet to find out, that are just not available in certain regions. Which is frustrating especially if it’s from your favorite author and you were so eager to just grab your copy and dive into another world, reality be damned.

E-books are here to stay and thankfully so since they provide us with the comfort of having our book with us wherever we go. I use both-yes I prefer hardcopies but there are events when I will need to make an exception. I’ve always felt strange in a way, if you look at my generation we lean towards softcopies a lot
