Jesús Vallejo is leaving Real Madrid as a free agent, as the club has decided not to extend the contract of the centre-back. Vallejo can also be utilized as a left-back. This was announced by the club in an official statement (comunicado oficial).
Vallejo officially joined Real Madrid from Real Zaragoza in 2015 but was loaned back several times, including to Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), before returning to the club.
However, despite spending five seasons at Real Madrid, Vallejo struggled to get regular playing time, making only limited appearances in all competitions. He was not even considered a second-choice option, with the likes of David Alaba, Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy, and Antonio Rüdiger ahead of him in the pecking order.
Vallejo was, however, part of the squad that won two UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey title, and two Spanish Super Cups.
The statement from Real Madrid thanked Vallejo for his commitment and professionalism throughout his time as a Real Madrid player. Vallejo’s contract would officially end on June 30 2025 Although FIFA rules allow clubs to offer short-term contracts specifically for the Club World Cup, Vallejo will leave Real Madrid immediately in search of a new chapter.
Despite his limited game time, Vallejo maintained composure and professionalism on the pitch. He had recently begun to receive a bit more playing time due to injuries to Rüdiger and Alaba, but his long-term role at the club remained uncertain.
With the Spanish national team, Vallejo has won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and was a UEFA European Under-21 and Under-19 champion.
We wish Vallejo the best in his career as he seeks a new chapter. Though not a club legend like Luka Modrić, Vallejo made some important contributions to Real Madrid. Hopefully, he finds a club where he can make a significant impact with more regular playing time.
