Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Multiple Sexual Offence Charges.

Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault during a court appearance in London.

The comedian, actor, and broadcaster appeared at Southwark Crown Court, where he formally denied the five charges for the first time. The allegations span from 1999 to 2005 and involve four women, with the alleged offences taking place in central London and Bournemouth.

Brand, 49, faces one count of rape, one of oral rape, one of indecent assault, and two further counts of sexual assault. He is accused of orally raping and sexually assaulting one woman in July 2004, and of raping another in 1999. In 2001, he allegedly indecently assaulted a woman by grabbing her arm and attempting to drag her towards a male toilet. He is also charged with sexually assaulting a different woman by kissing and groping her in either 2004 or 2005.

During the hearing, Mr Brand stood in the glass dock and confirmed his name before pleading "not guilty" to each charge. He wore a dark suit with an unbuttoned shirt, remained silent before reporters, and looked straight ahead as he entered the building. After the proceedings, he put on his sunglasses and thanked the usher as he left the dock. He was later seen leaving the courthouse, flanked by security guards, and entering a waiting car while passing photographers and camera crews.

The media personality and influencer, who resides in Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, has been released on conditional bail. A pre-trial review is scheduled for 20 May 2026, with the full trial set to begin on 3 June 2026.

Following the charges brought against him in April, Brand released a video denying the allegations. "I'm not a rapist and I've never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity," he said, adding, "I'm now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court, and I'm incredibly grateful for that."

Born in Essex, Mr Brand rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and became widely known for hosting TV programmes such as Big Brother's Big Mouth, as well as for his radio work on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music. He later transitioned into a Hollywood film career, with roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.
