Chairman Wontumi's Brother In Law Is A King Who Can Call Boko Haram To Come Here So Release Him

Tensions surrounding the ongoing legal issues of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, have taken a new turn following remarks made by one of his devoted supporters. An elderly woman, speaking passionately in a public setting, claimed that Wontumi’s sister is married to a traditional ruler in Maiduguri, Nigeria. She warned that continued detention of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could invite consequences extending beyond Ghana’s borders.

Her statements come at a critical moment in Wontumi’s legal journey. He was recently invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist in a probe involving alleged involvement in illegal mining operations—commonly referred to as “galamsey.” During his engagement with authorities, he reportedly experienced health complications and was subsequently rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

While the woman’s remarks stirred some alarm, many have interpreted her comments as emotional rather than literal. Political observers suggest her claims may reflect frustration and concern among grassroots supporters who feel their leader is being unfairly treated. Others have cautioned against invoking foreign associations in what is fundamentally a domestic legal matter, noting that such assertions could unnecessarily heighten tensions or mislead the public.

Chairman Wontumi’s legal troubles are rooted in accusations of operating without a valid mining license, contaminating water bodies, and encroaching on environmentally protected zones. After engaging with the CID, he was transferred to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for further investigation into similar allegations.

Despite securing bail—reportedly set at a substantial amount with strict conditions—his legal team has not yet secured his release. Insiders suggest that a court motion, still pending review, is holding up the process, even though all bail conditions appear to have been met.

The political backdrop of the case adds an extra layer of complexity. Supporters argue that Wontumi’s strong influence within the NPP and his often unapologetic political stance have made him a target. They see the ongoing legal action as part of a broader attempt to silence or neutralize vocal figures within the party. In contrast, government officials and investigators maintain that their actions are based purely on legal grounds, aimed at addressing the nationwide crisis posed by illegal mining.

As public interest grows, the emotional plea from the elderly supporter highlights the intense loyalty Wontumi commands among parts of the electorate. It also reflects the deep political divisions his case has come to represent, not just within the NPP but across Ghana’s political spectrum.

For now, the country waits. As legal proceedings continue, many Ghanaians are hoping for a resolution that upholds justice, respects due process, and preserves national unity in the face of rising political tensions. Watch the full video below.
