BREAKING:Chelsea and AC Milan NOT Close on Valuation for Mike Maignan

Chelsea’s pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has hit a major roadblock. While the Blues have shown strong interest in the French international, significant differences in valuation and a strict deadline set by Chelsea have left a potential deal hanging by a thread. As both clubs stand firm, time is quickly running out to reach an agreement.

Valuation Dispute: AC Milan Want €30m; Chelsea Value Maignan at €10m Due to 2026 Contract Expiry

Negotiations between Chelsea and AC Milan over Mike Maignan have stalled, with both sides holding very different views on the goalkeeper’s market value. AC Milan are asking for a fee of around €30 million, believing the 28-year-old is among the best goalkeepers in Europe. Maignan has been instrumental in Milan’s success since arriving from Lille and remains a key part of the squad.

Chelsea, however, are only willing to offer €10 million, citing Maignan’s contract, which expires in 2026. The Blues argue that with just two years remaining on his deal, Milan risk losing the player for less—or even for free—down the line. This strategic view reflects Chelsea’s growing focus on value-driven recruitment under the current ownership.

The disagreement on valuation has left the deal in limbo, with neither side showing signs of compromise as of now.

Chelsea Set Monday Deadline: Club Confident in Current Goalkeeper Depth

Adding pressure to the situation, Chelsea have made it clear they will not remain in talks indefinitely. The club has reportedly set a deadline of Monday to resolve negotiations. If no agreement is reached by then, they plan to withdraw their interest in Maignan altogether.

Chelsea’s firm deadline is supported by the club’s current goalkeeper situation. The Blues already have four goalkeepers in their ranks—Robert Sánchez, Djordje Petrović, Marcus Bettinelli, and highly-rated youngster Gabriel Slonina. While the club is interested in upgrading the position with a top-level name like Maignan, they are not desperate.

This measured approach reflects Chelsea’s evolving transfer strategy. With Financial Fair Play regulations in mind, the club is focusing on long-term planning, avoiding overpaying for players, and building a competitive but sustainable squad.

Meanwhile, Maignan remains focused on international duty with France as they prepare for Euro 2024. Although he may be open to a move to the Premier League, no deal will materialize unless Milan lower their price or Chelsea increase their offer.

As the Monday deadline approaches, all eyes are on whether either side will budge. But as things stand, Mike Maignan looks set to stay at the San Siro—unless a late breakthrough changes the picture.
