Patrick Effah (Hon. Patoo), the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North, has engaged with persons living with disabilities (PwDs) to meet their challenges and touch on opportunities for the PwDs in the district.
The DCE was accompanied by his team, took turns to highlight and explain what he, the DCE and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party would do for the disability community to improve their lives.
Hon. Patrick during the meeting assured the PWDs that they will have a place
in his role as a DCE.
"The PWDs have a federation, and when I was appointed and approved, they visited me and I assured that I would meet them to address their challenges," Hon. Patrick mentioned.
He touched on his recognition of the PwDs, saying there will be an allocation for them and to outline his policies and programmes aimed at
improving their lives including employing opportunities.
He touched on the PWDs common funds, addressed that they should use the funds for its intended purposes as the government has procured.
Government is committed to include persons with disabilities (PWDs) are fully integrated into the National Apprenticeship Programme.
He also urged the PWDs to assist to clear the land they have acquired for the allocation of their apprenticeship center.
Hon. Patrick encouraged them to be involved in the YEA apprenticeship program.
The DCE encouraged them not to be discouraged because disability is not an inability, they can have access and do things to better their lives.
Speaking at an engagement with individuals with disabilities in Nkoranza North the DCE emphasized that PWDs are key stakeholders in the government’s flagship initiatives, Adwumawura and the National Apprenticeship Programme. He assured that no one would be left out of government policies aimed at skills development and economic empowerment.
He further encouraged individuals with disabilities to join various associations better to position themselves for government support and policy benefits.
On behalf of the PWDs, Mr James, Nkoranza North Federation of physically challenge chairman showed gratitude for the DCE on his visit.
The DCE highlighted the efforts in providing education, skills training, and opportunities for young people, including PWDs. He described the engagement as a platform for inspiration one where dreams are nurtured, and passions ignited.
He applauded the DCE for his timely presence to get engaged with his people to listen and see to address their issues.
The PWDs highlighted key challenges they are facing, which includes clearing their land for their business center, delay in the PWDs common funds disbursement, inadequate spectacles and white-canes for the visually impaired, crutches, and wheelchairs.
He concluded by urging the federation to have meetings at least in every 3 months to discuss issues affecting them and how they can propel in life.
