For a lot of football fans, the off-season is like a breath of fresh air. It means one exciting thing: transfers! And let me tell you, the summer window of 2025 is shaping up to be a real whirlwind, with some big names already being tossed around in potential big-money moves.

Now, we all know that some transfers can be a match made in heaven for everyone involved. But, let's be real — there are plenty of deals where one club or the player ends up scratching their head, wondering how things could’ve gone differently if they’d just made another choice at the negotiating table.

That’s where GOAL comes in. We're here to keep you in the loop about who’s coming out on top in these massive deals before the players even step onto the pitch in their new kits. Over the course of the summer window, we’ll be grading every completed deal as it happens. So, you’ll be able to see who the big winners — and the not-so-lucky losers — are this transfer season.

Take Sunderland, for instance. Just a few weeks after celebrating their Championship play-off final victory, they’re facing some tough news. Owner Kyril Louis Dreyfus was keen to keep one of the key players who helped them climb back up to the Premier League. But, alas, the pull of following in his brother Jude’s footsteps was just too strong for Bellingham. On the bright side, Sunderland can take comfort in the fact that they’ll snag a club-record fee for the 19-year-old if he hits some realistic targets at Signal Iduna Park. Plus, they’ll get a nice little 15 percent slice of his next transfer fee, which could really pay off if Bellingham turns out to be even half as successful as his brother at Dortmund.

Now, according to Sky’s Sacha Tavolieri, Pep Guardiola and his team at City had their sights set on FC Barcelona’s Dani Olmo after Wirtz. But they quickly realized that trying to land the Spaniard would be a long and complicated process throughout the summer. Discussions between City and Barcelona suggested that if they reached an agreement, it would be a ‘long, complex, and bitter’ negotiation — and they really wanted someone in place before the FIFA Club World Cup.

So, what did Manchester City do? They shifted gears and aimed to bring Rayan Cherki aboard this summer. Lyon is in a bit of a pickle financially, needing to balance their books by the end of June, with a sale target around €40 million. Cherki’s arrival at the Etihad will definitely raise eyebrows about City’s interest in Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who’s been on their radar as a top target heading into the summer.

At one point, reports suggested that City officials were in the lead to sign Nuno Espirito Santo’s star player, who would likely command a hefty fee of over £70 million this summer. And let’s not forget about the future of some of City’s current playmakers — like James McAtee, who might be leaving the club permanently or on loan, and Phil Foden, who’s eager to make a comeback next season.
