Chelsea's got their eyes set on signing Mike Maignan from AC Milan and Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur is looking at paying around £10 million to bring Brentford's manager, Thomas Frank, on board. Oh, and let's not forget, both Manchester City and Real Madrid have missed out on an up-and-coming English talent, while there's a teenage striker ready to move on from Stamford Bridge this summer.
So, Chelsea is really pushing to wrap up these two transfers before the big tournament. They’ve put in a new offer of £15 million for Maignan, who’s nearing the final year of his contract at AC Milan. But honestly, their initial bid of £10 million was way off from what Milan wants; they’re holding out for about £25 million.
As for Jamie Gittens, the Blues are still in talks with Dortmund. They had a £29.5 million bid turned down, and they know they need to sweeten the deal if they want to snag the England U21 star. Gittens, you might remember, was once with Chelsea as a kid before he left to chase first-team action. Dortmund could ask for as much as £50 million for this 20-year-old winger.
Switching gears, Tottenham seems to be on the verge of hiring Thomas Frank as their new head coach. Brentford is sticking to their guns, insisting that Spurs cough up the £10 million exit fee for Frank. But hey, there’s been some positive buzz lately, and it looks like Tottenham is feeling hopeful about getting this deal done. Frank’s keen to join Spurs and even wants to bring some of his Brentford staff along. Plus, Tottenham’s technical director, Johan Lange, has a good rapport with Frank from their days at Danish club Lyngby.
Now, back to Chelsea. Personal terms shouldn’t be an issue, but they really need to put their money where their mouth is if they want Gittens before they head to the States for the summer tournament – where, guess what, Dortmund will also be playing.
It’s been a bit of a rocky road for Chelsea lately with their recruitment strategy hitting some bumps. They’re on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, and Enzo Maresca is especially keen on Maignan, especially since the guy’s contract is down to just a year.
None of Chelsea's current goalkeepers have really nailed down the spot, which is why they’re exploring other options. On the attacking front, they were eyeing Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt, too. After deciding to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United for £5 million following his loan, Chelsea plans to keep pushing negotiations for Ekitike.
As for Maignan, Chelsea isn't feeling too generous about meeting AC Milan’s asking price of over £20 million, especially with just a year left on his contract. Their latest offer? Around £12 million. And it seems Maignan is pretty clear about wanting to make the move to Stamford Bridge; he’s told Milan he doesn’t plan on renewing his deal.
