Sanitation drive hits Pinihini DCE urges residents to Participate to keep the environment clean at all times.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nkoranza North district Assembly, Effah Patrick, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, led a clean-up exercise at Pinihini, in the Nkoranza North district of Bono East Region.

The exercise saw participants desilting choked gutters and clearing weeds in vantage areas. Communal labour is something important in every community because cleanliness is next to godliness.

The exercise was in direct fulfilment of the national sanitation day exercise, which Hon. Patrick has commenced its schedule every Sunday in the communities in Nkoranza North district.

President John Mahama's national sanitation day program aims to improve environmental cleanliness and promote community involvement.

The program has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of sanitation and encouraging communities to take ownership of their environment. The environment must be kept very clean at all times to prevent the outbreak of diseases.

The clean-up exercise has already been embarked in communities such as Bono Manso, Baafi, and now at Pinihini, where the choked gutters around the communities were desilted by residents who participated.

Addressing the participants and the media after the exercise, the DCE said the Assembly was determined to stop the untidy conditions on the streets and markets across the communities in the district, and as part of President Mahama's national sanitation day program.

He said the Assembly would continue to work in accordance with the campaign and appealed to the residents to show interest and take active part in such clean-up exercises for cleanliness.

"Even though the president has scheduled for every month, I decided to use the opportunity to exercise this clean-up exercise weekly, and I have scheduled it community by community", Hon. Patrick disclosed.

"There were some few recalcitrants who were idling around without participating in the clean-up," the DCE observed.

Hon. Patrick added that the current sanitation bye-laws under the operation national sanitation day requires residents to take full responsibility of cleaning and collecting refuse gathered.

He finally addressed that the sanitation exercise will help abate illnesses caused by filthy environments and bring up community spirit.

"In the past, communal engagement helped development; I urge everyone to participate when the time arises to clean our environment for healthy living," Hon. Patrick stated.

Hon. Patrick concluded that the District Assembly's sanitation drive demonstrates a strong commitment to improving environmental cleanliness and promoting community involvement. By working together, residents can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future for their communities.
