Accra Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s most storied football clubs, is looking to bounce back from a challenging campaign in the just-ended Ghana Premier League season. A board member of the club has assured fans and stakeholders that significant improvements will be made ahead of the upcoming season to restore the club's glory.
Speaking in an interview, the board member acknowledged that the 2024/25 season did not meet the expectations of the club or its loyal supporters. “We understand the disappointment of our fans. This is not where Hearts of Oak belongs. We have had frank discussions at the board level and are fully committed to turning things around,” he stated.
The Phobians, who finished outside the top four, struggled with consistency throughout the season, with managerial changes, injuries, and lack of cohesion contributing to their underwhelming performance. Despite these setbacks, the board remains optimistic and determined to bring about positive changes.
According to the board member, the club will be taking concrete steps in the off-season to strengthen both the technical and playing staff. “We are currently assessing our squad and technical team. Recruitment will be based on quality and discipline. We are targeting players who can meet the high standards of this great club,” he added.
In addition to player acquisitions, there will be a focus on improving training facilities and enhancing player welfare to ensure peak performance. The club also plans to engage more with fans, recognizing their crucial role in Hearts of Oak’s identity and success.
“Our fans are the heartbeat of this club. We are working on initiatives to bring them closer to the team. Their support will be vital as we embark on this rebuilding journey,” the board member said.
As pre-season preparations approach, fans of the Rainbow club will be hopeful that these promises translate into results on the pitch. Hearts of Oak will aim not only to reclaim domestic dominance but also to make a meaningful impact on the continental stage in the near future.
