Leroy Sané has chosen Galatasaray as his next destination, according to Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The former Manchester City winger has decided to leave Bayern Munich upon the expiration of his contract on June 30. His total transfer package, including signing bonuses, is expected to be in the range of £15 million.
Sané rejected multiple offers, including one from Galatasaray’s biggest rivals, Fenerbahçe, who reportedly offered the highest salary; another from Arsenal, said to be the lowest; and a renewed, improved contract from Bayern Munich.
Sané is currently part of the Club World Cup squad with Bayern, but the club is expected to make an exception, allowing him to travel to Istanbul to sign his contract — a three year deal . Reports suggest one of the key reasons he chose Galatasaray is their direct qualification for the Champions League, unlike Fenerbahçe. Playing in the UCL was said to be a top priority for Sané. His signing signals Galatasaray’s clear intent to compete seriously in Europe.
Furthermore, Galatasaray are hoping that Sané’s arrival — which demonstrates their ambition to build a Champions League-caliber squad — could help convince Victor Osimhen to also join the club.
Sané is expected to be lined up as a replacement for the former number 10, Dries Mertens, who recently retired after playing his final game for Galatasaray.
Recall that Galatasaray have won the Turkish League title three times in a row. However, during the recent title celebration, club president Dursun Özbek told the Turkish press that the club now wants "success in Europe" and is no longer content with just domestic dominance.
Sané’s move to the Turkish league, despite it not being among Europe’s top five leagues, underscores Galatasaray’s growing reputation for successfully managing high-profile transfers. Over the years, they have attracted big names like Lucas Torreira, Bafétimbi Gomis, Henry Onyekuru, Mario Jardel, Mauro Icardi, and even Victor Osimhen.
