Jack Grealish has been left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad, as announced on the club’s official website. Meanwhile, new signings Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, and Abdelhamid Al-Nitouri have been included in the squad.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Grealish was left out because he is expected to leave Manchester City this season, despite being under contract until 2027.
Signed for £100 million from his boyhood club Aston Villa, Grealish has not lived up to the expectations of a £100 million player.
This season, in 20 Premier League appearances, he has scored just one goal and registered one assist. Although he has already been relegated to the bench, many expected him to prove himself—especially considering that a £100 million signing would never be benched, at least not in their first season.
In his debut season (2021/2022), he made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists. The following season, he improved slightly, registering 6 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances.
However, many believe the midfielder/winger has failed to justify his price tag. He has been inconsistent and lacked significant output, even as Manchester City won the treble( though he actually made a contribution to their treble winning season) during his time at the club. However his overall performance has been bang average at least.
Of course, this is what tends to happen when clubs overpay for a player. Not everyone has the mentality of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to handle the pressure that comes from fans and the media when you're a big-money signing.
Jack Grealish is expected to explore all options for a permanent move away from Manchester City before the close of the summer transfer window. Also Kyle Walker who is expected to leave the club permanently despite AC Milan not willing to buy him and Kevin De brunye who is signing for Napoli were also left out of City 27 men squad list
