João Félix is set to leave Chelsea FC this summer after his loan spell at AC Milan, having been left out of the Club World Cup squad. Milan are reportedly not willing to sign him permanently, as his performances did not meet expectations.
It’s also clear that he is not in Chelsea’s plans for next season (not that he has earned a chance anyway), especially with new signing from Sporting CP, Dário Essugo, already taking over his jersey number 14.As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he is set to leave the club
From his breakout season at Benfica—where he scored 15 goals in 26 games and helped them win the Primeira Liga—to securing a club-record €126 million move to Atlético Madrid in 2019, Félix’s career has been a rollercoaster. After failing to impress in Spain, he was loaned to Chelsea from January to June 2023, and then to Barcelona for the 2023/2024 season.
Chelsea eventually signed him permanently in August 2024 on a seven-year deal worth £46 million, only to loan him out again to AC Milan in January 2025. In fact, someone once described Félix's career as a never-ending cycle: he secures a big-money move, plays well on his debut, kisses the badge, then ghosts for the rest of the season.
In addition to Félix, several other players were also left out of the Club World Cup squad: Djordje Petrovic, Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, Kendry Páez, and Renato Veiga. Apparently, Chelsea decided not to include any player who has been out on loan this season, treating the Club World Cup as an extension of the current campaign. The only exception to that rule is former Strasbourg captain, Andrey Santos.
Viega was left out after he forced his way on a loan move to Juventus to get more playing time.
Furthermore, Axel Disasi is expected to leave Chelsea following a successful loan at Aston Villa, while Raheem Sterling is also not expected to stay. These players are now working on finding a permanent resolution with the club this summer.
