Nana Kwadwo Jantuah Endorses Mahama's Leadership, Criticizes NPP's Missteps.

Nhyira FM’s seasoned broadcast journalist, Nana Kwadwo Jantuah, has expressed his firm support for President John Mahama’s current administration, asserting that the president does not currently require external advice. Speaking on The BKB Show with Bright Boadu, Jantuah praised Mahama's leadership, stating:

“What John Mahama is doing is unbelievable—it is exactly what Kufuor did in the past!”

By comparing Mahama’s actions to those of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Jantuah highlighted the effectiveness of Mahama’s current strategies, suggesting they mirror a period of successful governance in Ghana’s past.

Interestingly, Jantuah, a lecturer, broadcaster, and known member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), did not hesitate to criticize his own party. He blamed the NPP for a series of missteps that, in his view, led to their overwhelming defeat by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He stated:

“I was one of the people who actively campaigned for Nana Akufo-Addo to become president back in 2016. At the time, we believed John Mahama had grown arrogant and was unwilling to listen to advice. I didn’t even want to hear his name.”

“I genuinely believed Nana Akufo-Addo could turn Ghana’s fortunes around. My faith in him was so strong that I continued to praise him even after he took office.”

However, Jantuah noted that the optimism surrounding Akufo-Addo’s early presidency was short-lived.

“When Nana Akufo-Addo eliminated about 17 nuisance taxes, Ghanaians were thrilled. But we didn’t realize the economy was under the control of the IMF, which restricted his ability to deliver on many promises. Over time, he also stopped taking advice, believing he had arrived. That’s when the people began to turn against him.”

In contrast, Jantuah believes President Mahama is excelling, particularly in addressing illegal mining (galamsey).

“At the very least, he is doing better than the previous administration and doesn’t need external advice. President Mahama has proven me wrong. I doubted his return, especially due to his past economic performance, but today I would rate him 7 out of 10. He has learned a great deal during his eight years in opposition and is now doing well economically.”

Jantuah also praised Mahama’s current appointments:

“One thing I admire about Mahama this time is his selection of young, energetic individuals—people he can mentor and discipline for the future. His past experiences with appointees have clearly shaped this approach.”

On Being Labelled an NDC Sympathiser

Responding to claims that he is a sympathizer of the NDC, Jantuah clarified:

“I come from an entirely NPP family and have never voted for the NDC. But if I had voted in the 2024 elections, I would have voted for John Mahama for the first time in my life.”

He emphasized his commitment to journalistic objectivity, despite his political background:

“I’ve always been objective, regardless of my political affiliation. In fact, some people in the NPP were angry with me in Kumasi for being critical of the party’s actions. They assumed I had crossed over to the NDC. But I’m proud to say that everything I warned the NPP about eventually came to pass. I never lied, nor did I intend to attack my own party.”
