So, Trent Alexander-Arnold is kicking off his journey with Real Madrid after making the switch from Liverpool on a six-year contract. He’s officially been introduced as part of the Real squad, and guess what? He’ll be sporting the number 12 jersey at the Bernabeu. The 26-year-old is all set to join the team for the revamped FIFA Club World Cup happening in the United States, where they’ll face off against Al Hilal next week.

On Thursday, it was made official: Trent is now a Real Madrid player. As part of the deal, he’s taking over the number 12 shirt that was once worn by Eduardo Camavinga after Marcelo’s departure. And hey, it’s just going to say “Trent” on the back this time — no more long “Alexander-Arnold” like back at Liverpool.

He’s got some big expectations on his shoulders, but he seems ready to take them on. “I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play. I know the demands are high here, and I’m going to give my all for the team and the fans,” he said. “I want to win many titles and play alongside the best players in the world. Hala Madrid!”

Before he took the stage, Madrid president Florentino Perez had some kind words for him, emphasizing that Trent chose Real Madrid for a reason: “This is where you can achieve even more glory. The supporters will be behind you, giving you energy whenever you need it.” It’s clear he felt the warmth and support from the club, which he referred to as a big family filled with dedicated fans.

But, let’s be real — not everyone was happy about how Trent wrapped up his time at Liverpool. There was some grumbling among fans about his departure. Still, at Liverpool’s last game of the season against Crystal Palace, he received a much warmer send-off. He played a key role in helping Liverpool clinch their 20th league title under new manager Arne Slot, contributing to some unforgettable moments during his time there.

Some fans joked on social media, saying, “This guy has been planning this move for a WHILE!!” Another chimed in, noting, “Of course, Trent should; he’s been working towards this for almost two years.”

When he finally took the stage, he looked absolutely thrilled. After shaking hands with Perez, he made a statement that caught everyone’s attention. “Thank you, Florentino Perez and the club for this opportunity,” he said in fluent Spanish. “This doesn’t happen every day. It’s a dream come true. I’m very happy and proud to be here. I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play.”

Even though he didn’t officially announce leaving Liverpool until May, it’s likely he’d been plotting this move for quite some time. Now, he’s teaming up with his good buddy Bellingham and, of course, he’ll be working with Xabi Alonso, another former Liverpool star, who’s now managing at Madrid. Exciting times ahead!
