AS Monaco Wants To Sign Paul Pogba, As Reported by Fabrizio Romano, on a Two-Year Contract
This comes after their deal with La Masia graduate Ansu Fati is almost complete. Recall that the midfielder just returned from an anti-doping ban — initially set for four years, but later reduced to 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport found that he had taken the substance unintentionally.
He tested positive for high levels of testosterone after a match for Juventus in August 2023. Pogba claimed the substance came from a supplement given to him in the U.S., which was not properly checked by his medical team.
Pogba’s career has had its ups and downs, especially during his spell at Manchester United. He first played for United between 2009 and 2012 before leaving for Juventus as a free agent. In Italy, he became a world-class midfielder — winning four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies, and earning the FIFA Golden Boy award in 2013.
He played a major role in France’s 2018 World Cup victory alongside Kylian Mbappé.
In 2016, he returned to Manchester United for a then-world-record fee of €105 million. That’s where the problems began. He was heavily scrutinized by the media because of his price tag. In fact, the media criticized almost everything he did — both on and off the pitch. Eventually, his performances became inconsistent, and he also had a public fallout with then-manager José Mourinho.
Pogba returned to Juventus in 2022, but his time there was plagued by injuries before the doping ban in 2023. He and Juventus mutually terminated his contract in November 2024, and now he is back — available as a free agent. Several clubs, including teams from the Saudi Pro League and MLS, have shown interest, and now French side AS Monaco is offering to sign him. Hopefully he proves to the football world why he is one of the greatest midfieldiers. Maybe a Ballon D'or 2026 shout out?
